How to Troubleshoot Print Quality Issues on the B5460dn / B5465dnf Dell Laser Printer

1. Characters have Jagged or Uneven Edges

  1. Print a font sample list to check if the fonts you are using are supported by the printer.
    1. From the printer control panel, navigate to: Menu, Reports, Print Fonts.
    2. Touch PCL Fonts or PostScript Fonts.
  2. Use a font that is supported by the printer or install the font that you want to use. For more information, contact your system support person.
  3. Resend the print job.
  4. If the prints still contain characters that have jagged or uneven edges, use a font that is supported by the printer or install the font that you want to use on your computer. For more information, contact your system support person.

  1. Move the width and length guides in the tray to the correct positions for the paper loaded.

  3. If the page or image is still clipped, From the printer control panel, set the paper size and type in the Paper menu to match the paper loaded in the tray.

  5. Depending on your operating system, specify the paper size from Printing Preferences or from the Print dialog.
  6. Resend the print job.
  7. If the page or image is still clipped, reinstall the imaging unit.
    1. Remove the toner cartridge.

3. Printer is Printing Blank Pages

  1. Check if there is packing material left on the imaging unit.

    3. Reinstall the imaging unit, and then the cartridge.
  2. Resend the print job.
  3. If the pages are still blank, redistribute the toner in the imaging unit.
    1. Remove the toner cartridge, and then the imaging unit.
    2. Firmly shake the imaging unit.Notice: Potential Damage: Do not expose the imaging unit to direct light for more than 10 minutes. Extended exposure to light may cause print quality problems.
    3. Reinstall the imaging unit, and then the cartridge.
  4. Resend the print job.
  5. If the pages are still blank, replace the imaging unit, and then resend the print job.

4. Compressed Images Appear on Prints

 

  1. Make sure the size of the paper loaded in the tray matches the fuser type.Note: Use a 110-volt fuser for printing on letter-size paper and a 220-volt fuser for printing on A4‑size paper.
  2. Resend the print job.

    3. If the paper type and weight match the type and weight of the paper in the tray, depending on your operating system, specify the paper type and weight from Printing Preferences or from the Print dialog.
    4. Resend the print job.
    5. If the paper still curled, remove the paper from the tray, and then turn it over.
    6. Resend the print job.
    7. If the paper still curled, load paper from a fresh package.Note: Paper absorbs moisture due to high humidity. Store paper in its original wrapper until you use it.
    8. Resend the print job.
